To Twill or Not to Twill, What a Silly Question!
An in Depth Look at the World of Twills
on the Four Harness Loom
(This is the perfect 3rd workshop to do at Jane Stafford Textiles)
Even if you have a multi-shaft loom (more than 4 harnesses) it is so beneficial to understand how to create your own patterns on 4 shafts first. Weavers are often under the impression that you can only weave small twills on a 4 shaft loom but alas that is not the case. We will weave several gamps in this workshop, one with small twills and one with large twills. We learn how to create our own twill threading combinations and we explore 3/1, 1/3 and 2/2 twills. We transform 4 shaft twills into Shadow Weave. We take colour and design techniques to the next step by exploring them with twill tie-ups and if that is not enough you will become a competent drafter. At the end of these 5 days you will leave with a bounty of information that will provide the foundation for explorations of more complex weave structures along with 8 beautiful samples woven in stunning colour combinations and in a wide range of yarns.
